Halloween Pancakes

Happy Halloween everyone! I decided to add some fall color to our post today with the following autumn colored art.

I just love it & wish more people were getting on the Sweet Tooth bandwagon. I have a feeling it'll end up being some cult classic in the future. I know a second season is coming, but it worries me that there isn't more fan pages or merch out there. That's usually a sign of success for a show/movie. How much demand there is for STUFF & at the moment it's pretty lackluster.

Anyways, if you watch the show, you'll know that Gus AKA Sweet Tooth doesn't have anything resembling a "normal" childhood or is taught the traditions of the general masses. He doesn't know what Halloween means. See the following clip.

I'm not sure what exactly "pancakes the way I like them" actually are, but I know it's gotta have maple syrup on them. Other than that, nothing gives us a hint really. I do know they have apples, as stated in previous posts, & later in this episode, Gus gets a caramel apple the first time, so that's gonna be my theme. Maple Caramel Apple Pancakes.

Gus's Halloween Pancakes

Pancakes:

4 cups Aunt Jemima Buttermilk Pancake Mix

2 cups apple cider

1 cup milk

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Apples:

4 sliced granny smith apples

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup maple sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

Syrup:

1/2 cup butter

1 cup apple cider

2 cups maple sugar

Optional:

Whipped Cream

Chopped Walnuts

1. Heat electric griddle to 350F.

2. Mix all pancake ingredients together & let rest. Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto the hot griddle. When batter on top forms bubbles & begins to look dry to the touch, flip onto other side & cook until browned. * If not using right away, place on a foil lined cookie sheet in oven at lowest setting. Be aware this makes 18-20 pancakes depending on the size. So it's enough for an army.

3. Core & slice the apples & place in sate pan with maple sugar, butter & cinnamon. Heat on medium heat until apples are cooked through.

4. For the syrup add all ingredients to sauce pan & heat until all ingredients have melted & incorporated, stirring frequently with a wire whisk. * If you cook the syrup for too long or on too high a heat it will turn into proper caramel & be too thick to use as syrup. If this happens add more cider until you get the consistency you want.

5. Enjoy!

Wanna try it? Get the recipe here.

I hope try these delicious pancakes & have a safe & fun Halloween!!
